We humans have evolved from vagabonds to homemakers and home nesters, Home is a gathering place, a shelter, and it provides escape from the busyness and intrusiveness of the world.

The thought of a home fills us up with positive feelings, therefore all of us have or are looking to have a home at sometime, some are living with family, parents or joint family, some are moving to new location and so on,

Not all of us are fortunate enough to have a permanent home in our name, a lot of people across the world live in a rental house/apartment.

The general idea for all is that own home should be looked after and decorated while a rental home need not be, that is due to various reasons, some think their stay is temporary,

Some have very few permissions from land owner to decorate, there maybe many reasons, however i want to give my views on how to make a rental apartment your home without breaking rental rules or putting your security deposit at risk!

Here is the first blog in the series, how to Decorate the walls of your home without damaging them.

Once you start to bring changes in your rental, you will feel more comfortable and like it more, you will feel better when you entertain, or even when relaxing at home.

Walls

Walls are tricky places, most landlords would not agree to painting the whole house but you can always do a few clever remedies to make your house your home.

When you have a big, blank wall to fill, your first thought may be to make a gallery wall.

Thats a great idea, but sometimes it’s nice to change the monotonous framed artwork with something different.

Try baskets, brackets, paint-dipped objects, wall sculptures, special paint effects and more.

I have shared my ideas here on how to fill your walls with color and creativity.

There are many solutions for walls besides just simply covering it with paint which is obviously more expensive and sometimes not possible too due to limitations of a rented appartment.

Accent Wall

Try to paint one wall (of course with permission).

This will create a dramatic effect and totally change the look of the room This type of wall is called Accent wall,

You can choose any bold color for this wall, you can paint it simply or give it a textured finish , some people like to paint ceiling too in a different color that will bring a huge difference to the room as well.

Accent walls are very popular in the decorating industry.

They are  color accents which will always be popular because of their flexibility.

You have unlimited paint, surface and material options for your accent wall.

You are free to choose the location of your accent wall.

There are no set rules and limitations as to which wall should be Accent Wall.

Bold color can be used for your accent wall.

As long as you have coordinated with rest of room colors you can choose whatever color makes you happy.

You may consider stone or tile for your accent wall, shelving can also work as an accent wall in a room, it can also include a gallery of photos or artwork or even a fabric-draped wall.

These walls are the most flexible decorating items!

Curtain Wall (A Wall Of Curtains)

Can’t paint a wall?

Create a curtain wall to enhance the space with some color.

Also a curtain – wall will come to your rescue if there are ugly holes left by previous renter, whats more!

You can just move it to your new home when you shift.

Curtains can change the mood in a room.

By simply including this decorative element into a room’s design you can easily change the mood and the atmosphere.

The bedroom becomes cozier, the living room becomes more elegant, each room can benefit from such a feature.

A curtain wall can divide two spaces such as the living and dining areas for example.

Instead of using doors to divide these spaces you can create a similar effect with curtains.

A similar idea can also be applied to seperate bedroom and living room areas where you can replace the wall between the rooms with beautiful curtains.

The curtains offer you privacy and will make the room feel more  welcoming.

However the sound will travel through the curtains so if that is a problem, then door would be a better idea.
