1. Start with Basics
Some basics you should have are a white blazer, a cream blouse, and a black sweater; pieces that won’t fade away.
we do need to change the colors that we wear—especially those worn close to the face as we get older . The reason for this is that our personal coloring (hair, skin and eyes) becomes more delicate (a.k.a soft or muted) and very bright colors may visually overwhelm us .
Typically, a simple shade shift is all you need to look your best.
If you wore cherry red as young woman , and now it’s 40 years later, chances are you should still wear a version of that color it’s just going to be softened. Try a deep pink rather than a red.
2. Jewellery needs to change
A lot of women try to wear big and expensive statement necklaces and I think that everyone has a right to decide what looks good on them .
Chunky collarbone necklace lights up your complexion and brings sparkle back to your eyes-specially when made from pearls, beads and stones.
If you have a big chest, a short chunky necklace can refocus attention up and away.
Longer necklaces are no help. Keep amulets and charms no longer than mid-chest and loop those long necklaces.
3. Get atleast one good bag
Accessories should be functional, they can be good addition for your outfit.
A lot of bag sizes are available — oversized, medium and super tiny. A woman carrying a good bag demands attention.
How you carry your bag says a lot about you too – like – When held in hand it shows a hardworking woman who communicates the importance of her job, when worn in crook of the elbow it indicate a priority on status and position, worn cross body with bag in front of body indicates a more cautious personality.
So, the ways of holding a bag also show your personality and confidence levels!
4. Experiment with color
Try adding more color to your wardrobe , not bright but sober colors more of earthy tones, It makes you look sophisticated and young but not immature or obnoxious.
Look for sensual colors and fabrics for an alluring look that’s still age appropriate.
Fabrics like silk, satin, lace, and cashmere will give you a luxe look, and rich colors like burgundy, violet, and emerald green add a splash of drama!
Hair color is what you will wear all the time, so choose wisely.
Dying your hair properly is a very important thing – you want it to complement your skin tone, but you also want to stay away from the color it was when you were young.
The hair color you had when you were 10 will look very harsh to it and then soften it.
5. Find the right jeans
Dark denim is more sofisticated whereas a light denim is a bit more casual.
In a professional setting, dark denim is a safe choice but more important is the fit.
“High-rise jeans work best on most women. If there is no tummy bulge, go for the low to mid-rise Darker washes are always more slimming but a good pair of white jeans can be flattering for most women.
So how many types of jeans should you own? One true to your size, One size up, A boyfriend cut, which means, straight leg, loose fit jeans, A skinny jean and a bootcut or even a flared.. if you want to extend the length of your leg.
6. Invest in good pair of shoes
Start with basic colors – black , white , beige and build up from there,

7. Skirt Length
Your skirt should really be at or below the knee, no matter how beautiful your legs are.
It looks more appropriate and it doesn’t look like you’re trying to look young.
One skirt length that will always be flattering for older women is knee length.
Skirts are best when they either finish at the top of the knee or just below, also fine are just above the knee is good too.
Advantage of this look is that it shows of your full calve, makes you look taller and smiller, but then again partly due to the styling and partly due to the type of skirt and how well it fits one’s body, we can get away with other styles too sometimes!
8. Watch that watch
You should be sure to have a nice wrist watch.
If you can’t afford a classic Cartier tank, but if you know what it looks like then you can easily find something similar just get what’s in your budget and looks classy.
So we ask, why in the age of Cell Phones does one need a watch at all?
“I don’t need a watch because I have a phone”, is a common response from younger generation searching for a cell phone on regular occasions just to check the time looks desperate.
Also, they give you years of maintenance free time telling… compare that to a smart phone’s 8 hours!
Wristwatches make it easier for people to display their sense of style!
9. Try Shapewear
Wearing the proper shapewear underneath everything helps to give you smooth lines helps boost the confidence and makes you look elegant too.
As we age we all see lumps and bumps and wobbly bits in our body shape, these are side effects of gravity and the loss of elasticity in our skin.
One of the worst side-effects of these physical changes is back fat, and again, even thin people have back fat, although it may not appear until mid-50s.
Shape wear is the solution to this issue, there is a lot of shapewear available online and in markets around you including full body shapers, bras and panties, swimsuits, pantyhose and leggings.
10. Belt is needed
A statement belt – You can still make a fashion statement while you’re in your fifties.
And a belt not only makes a big impact, but it also helps to define your waist.
One slim belt is all you need to refresh dresses, to make tailored jackets look feminine or to give flat-knit sweaters worn over skirts a hint of shape.
11. Reading Glasses / Eyewear
Frames with eye shapes create a face lift of sorts.
Do not choose shapes with sharp edges . Rounded corners help to soften the facial features.
Try to choose warm tones , these look great on aging women.
Frames in browns, berry tones, and jewel tones are very flattering for older women.
Make sure you don’t choose frames that are too small vertically, a larger vertical dimension usually is much better for comfortable reading vision!
